Examinations

Your pet’s health can change in just a year—that’s why regular wellness exams are so important. We recommend annual checkups, though some pets may need more frequent visits based on their age and health status. During these exams, our veterinarians perform a full-body evaluation, checking for any signs of concern by examining the eyes, ears, and mouth, assessing joints and muscles, and listening to the heart and lungs. Early detection is key to effective treatment!

Wellness visits also offer a great opportunity to ask questions about your pet’s care. Our team is here to provide guidance and support to help you keep your furry friend happy and healthy.

Vaccinations

Keeping your pet protected starts with the right vaccines! Vaccinations help prevent serious diseases, some of which were once fatal. Every pet has different risk factors, so their vaccine schedule depends on lifestyle, exposure risks, and disease severity. While core vaccines are crucial for all pets, we may suggest additional ones to ensure their best protection.
  • Core Dog Vaccines: DHPP (Canine Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, and Parainfluenza) and Rabies
  • Core Cat Vaccines: FVRCP (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia) and Rabies
Based on your pet’s risk and lifestyle, we may also recommend:
  • Non-Core Dog Vaccines: Bordetella, Lyme, and Leptospirosis
  • Non-Core Cat Vaccines: Feline Leukemia, Bordetella, Feline Immunodeficiency Virus
We’re committed to keeping your pet safe without over-vaccinating. Too many vaccines can sometimes cause adverse reactions, so before administering them, we may run a titer test. This quick blood test checks your pet’s antibody levels to see if they’re already immune to certain diseases. While titer tests cost more than standard vaccines, they could save your pet from unnecessary shots. Plus, if the results show they need a vaccine, we’ll provide it at no additional charge!

Microchip Identification

Your pet belongs by your side, and we want to help keep it that way.

A microchip gives your pet a lifelong, unique identity, ensuring they can always find their way back to you. This tiny device, about the size of a grain of rice, is implanted just beneath the skin with no more discomfort than a routine vaccine. It securely stores your contact information, increasing the chances of a safe reunion if your pet ever gets lost.

We strongly recommend microchipping for all pets—even those who live indoors!

Parasite Prevention

While parasites are more active in warmer months, they can affect your pet at any time of the year. Fleas, ticks, heartworms, and intestinal parasites pose serious health risks, making prevention essential. We recommend regular testing and year-round parasite protection to keep your pet safe. Plus, we provide pet owners with tips on spotting symptoms and maintaining a parasite-free home, ensuring protection 365 days a year!

Lab Work

At Pure Paws Veterinary Care of Hell's Kitchen, we highly recommend lab work as part of your pet’s annual exam. It’s a vital tool for detecting hidden health issues and tracking changes that may not show obvious symptoms. Early detection means timely treatment and cost-effective care.

In addition to general wellness and disease screening, lab tests also ensure your pet’s safety before anesthesia or new medications. Common tests include complete blood counts (CBC), blood chemistry profiles, parasite screenings, urinalysis, FeLV/FIV testing, and titers.
