Specialized Senior Pet Care
Caring for Your Senior Pet
We strive to be there for your pet throughout every stage of life, from its birth to its golden years.
Our pets’ lives are short and sweet. Many breeds are considered seniors by the age of seven. As your pet ages, they require excellent care to stay happy, healthy, and active. Like humans, older pets have a slowed immune system, making them more vulnerable to disease and illness. Senior pets are more prone to conditions such as arthritis, blindness, dental disease, diabetes, kidney disease, dementia, and cancer.
Senior pets benefit tremendously from frequent wellness visits. We typically recommend seniors visit us at least twice a year so we can keep a closer eye on changing health trends and catch conditions as early as possible.
At our clinic we recommend more tests and routine health screenings because even a seemingly healthy pet may have an underlying, symptom less, yet harmful condition.
- Blood work pinpoints infections, anemia, and age-related conditions such as diabetes, kidney failure, liver disease, etc.
- X-rays identify issues that may not be detected with a wellness exam or blood work, such as arthritis and cancer.
- Urinalysis is an excellent indicator of your pet’s overall health. We commonly use urinalysis to screen for urinary tract infections, liver disease, and diabetes.
